Location
Kato Stalos (Lower Stalos) is a beachside tourist village located 7km west of the historic city of Chania (Xania). The pristine, sweeping sandy beach has been awarded the prestigious EU Blue Flag every year since 1999, and is well organised with good facilities for relaxing and having fun. There are plentiful cafes and restaurants along the main street and many more right on the beach, as well as numerous supermarkets and places to purchase traditional Cretan produce.
Kato Stalos and surroundings is the perfect place to combine relaxation and entertainment, with a choice of quieter family restaurants near to the hotel. More intense nightlife can be found in the nearby villages of Platanias and Agia Marina. For an even wider selection of culture, art, souvenirs, food and music, Chania is just 10 minutes away by taxi.
1.5 kilometres away and 150 meters above sea level is the village of Pano Stalos (Upper Stalos), a traditional village with unique natural beauty and picturesque views. Not only does it have a panoramic outlook of the area, but also traditional restaurants serving local Cretan dishes for an unforgettable experience.
Opposite of Kato Stalos is the small island of Agioi Theodoroi, a place where the rare Cretan mountain goat, called Kri-Kri, is bred these days.
There is a regular bus service to and from Chania every 15 minutes. The village’s location close to the National Road (E75), which runs the length of Crete, provides an excellent transport link to the airport and ferry port of Chania. It also offers the opportunity to travel quickly and easily to an incredible array of historic sites and areas of outstanding natural beauty in western Crete and the foothills of the Lefka Ori (White Mountains).
